Meal Prep Success Story: Trading Cardio for Cosmos

Hi! I’m Alexis! I am the author behind “Trading Cardio for Cosmos,” where I chronicle my -115lb weight loss journey and share tips, inspiration and recipes daily.

Yes, I did say -115lb weight loss.

You see, once upon a time I was the grab-n-go queen, ate entirely too many processed foods, snacks and drive-thru bag meals. I chose to get healthy and change my life in November 2014 and now I’m within one point of having a healthy BMI for the first time in more than a decade.

So how did I do it?

I spent a lot of time getting myself right emotionally, choosing to feed my body for fuel rather than comfort, entertainment or out of boredom.

I started exercising regularly and getting a good balance of cardio and weight training so my weight loss would be more even and less likely to cause sagging skin when I was done.

And then I gave up the processed foods, soda, drive-thru meals and started preparing healthy, balanced meals and snacks. I truly believe that a clean eating regime and weekly meal prep are at the heart of my weight loss success, and now I always have the freshest, healthiest options available to me.  

And thanks to Fitpacker, my meal prep, portioning and storage is a total breeze. Gone are the days of hunting for the lid that matches the squares, but not the rounds or the rectangles. Gone are the days of fighting to store tons of different size containers in my tiny kitchen. Fitpacker’s convenient shapes stack neatly inside one another, and I really like the portion-divided containers, which are like a subliminal clue as to what size portion of each food I should be eating!

This week I’m making lunches and snacks for four days and I started with fresh blueberries, grapes and cherries.

 For lunch I’m taking a 4oz boneless pork chop with a zucchini, broccoli, cabbage and carrot slaw with a homemade lemon-basil vinaigrette.

 For afternoon snacks I’m bringing a side salad fresh from the Farmer’s Market with tomatoes, squash and zucchini. I’ll probably add a hardboiled egg or some almonds here for a boost of protein.

 For my second afternoon snack I’m bringing fresh sugar snap peas from the garden with a protein-heavy black bean hummus.

 All of my containers fit easily in my work bag and fridge, and they’re totally dishwasher-safe, too, which fits well with my active commuter lifestyle.
